Police Certificate
- Reasons for application
Police certificates from the Japanese National Police Agency are issued only when required by certain authorities. The certificate is designed for certain purposes such as when requested by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship in relation to an application for Australian citizenship, for permanent residency visas or for registration to the Victorian or South Australian Teaching Board. Individuals who wish to apply for a police clearance certificate other than for the above mentioned reasons are asked to contact the Consular section in regards to the correct application procedure.
- Requirements (For non-Japanese citizens)
- Two copies of the application form

- A 'Completed Fingerprints Form' (This form is available from this office. A 'Fingerprints Form' issued by the Australian Federal or State Police is not acceptable for the Japanese police clearance certifcate application).
- Current passport.
- A document of proof that shows the necessity of a police certificate (if applicable).

An appointment is not required. - Application from South Australia or Tasmania
Victorian applicants are required to hand-submit their application so finger prints can be taken. However, applicants residing in South Australia or Tasmania may submit these by post. The fingerprints must be taken by an Australian Federal Police Officer and printed on the form provided by this office. If you wish to apply for the forms, please send in a large self-addressed envelope with a $1.20 stamp attached. An application package for a police clearance certificate will be sent to the address provided. Once all of the documents have been prepared, please send them into the office for processing.

The processing time usually takes approximately eight to ten weeks.
