Cultural Activities Dependent

  1. College Students

    Activities authorized to engage in: Activities to receive education at college or equivalent educational institutions, specialized courses of study at advanced vocational schools (Senshugakkou), educational institutions designated for preparing persons who have completed 12 years of education at schools in foreign countries to enter college, or Koto Senmongakko.
    Period of stay: 2 years or 1 year
    Must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility to apply for this visa.


  2. Pre-College Student

    Activities authorized to engage in: Activities to receive education at high schools, high school courses of schools for the blind or of handicapped children's schools, higher or general courses of advanced vocational schools (Senshugakko), or vocational schools (Kakushugakko) (excluding the educational institution described in the College Students) or the other educational institutions which are equivalent to vocational schools in facilities and curriculum.
    Period of stay: 1 year or 6 months
    Must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility to apply for this visa.


  3. Trainee

    Activities authorized to engage in: Activities to learn and acquire the technology, skills or knowledge at public or private organisations in Japan (excluding the activities described under College Student and Pre-college Student visas).
    Period of stay: 1 year or 6 months
    Must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility to apply for this visa.


  4. Cultural Activities

    Activities authorized to engage in: Academic or artistic activities that provide no income, activities for the purpose of pursuing specific studies on Japanese culture or arts, or activities for the purpose of learning and acquiring skills in Japanese culture or arts under the guidance of experts (for example, ikebana, tea ceremony, judo, etc.).
    Period of stay: 1 year or 6 months
    Must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility to apply for this visa.

  5. * Fellowship / Cultural Activities Visa

    People who have been invited by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), Japan Foundation or other Japanese administrative institutions to engage in unpaid scientific research activities, Japanese language education or intellectual exchanges may be required visas. (In some cases it is not necessary to obtain a visa.)

    These applicants, however, may, in the place of a Certificate of Eligibility, present the following documents to apply for a visa. Please note that if an applicant is unsure as to what category he/she falls under, the applicant should contact the visa section directly to save time and avoid confusion.

    Application without Certificate of Eligibility for Fellowship/Cultural Activities Visa
    REQUIREMENTS:

    1. A valid passport with a valid Australian visa
    2. Visa application form duly completed and signed by the applicant
    3. One passport sized photo (taken within 3 months)
    4. Documents certifying the activity and its duration, how the applicant is involved, and the outline of the organization where he or she intends to engage in the activity concerned.
    5. Documents certifying that the applicant can defray all expenses incurred, or there is a sponsorship agreement during the stay in Japan.
    6. Resume showing the applicant's academic career, achievements, etc.
    7. Employment letter or Student ID

  6. Dependent

    Activities authorized to engage in: Daily activities on the part of the spouse or unmarried minor child of those who stay in Japan with a status of residence mentioned in employment or working or with a Cultural Activities or College Student status of residence.
    Period of stay: 3 years, 2 years, 1 year, 6 months or 3 months
    Must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility to apply for this visa.

    Application without Certificate of Eligibility for Dependent Visa.
    If only the employed member of the family is still in Australia and willing to go to Japan together.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    1. A valid passport with a valid Australian visa
    2. Visa application form duly completed and signed by the applicant
    3. One passport sized photo (taken within 3 months)
    4. Passport of the employed member of the family containing a valid working visa for Japan.
    5. Marriage and/or Birth certificate to prove their relationships with the employed member of the family.
