Short term stay

Temporary Visitor(Holiday, Visiting Friends, Business, Attending a conference)
The following must be submitted for the application for the visa:

  1. A valid passport with a valid Australian visa
  2. Visa application form duly completed and signed by the applicant
  3. One passport sized photo (taken within 3 months)
  4. A copy of the airline ticket or flight details (full flight details from an accredited travel agent or airline)
  5. Hotel reservation or letter of invitation from friends/relatives stating length of stay and addresses of friends/relatives
  6. Materials showing financial ability of applicant (Traveller's cheques, bank statement or bank book)
  7. Letter from a school or university stating that the applicant is currently a student or letter of employment from applicant's company
  8. The documents listed below must be provided by your guarantor in Japan
    • A letter of guarantee(English | Japanese) from your relative or friend living in Japan
    • An Itinerary for your stay
    • Guarantor's Tax Certificate issued by the Mayor's office, the head of the Ward's office, or taxation office in Japan. "Gensen cho shu sho" is not accepted.
    • Guarantor's Certificate of Seal Registratin issued by the Mayor's office or the Head Ward's office in Japan.
    • (If your guarantor is a Japanese national)
      • A current Residential Certificate (Jyu-min hyo)
      • Family Register (Koseki tohon)
      • An Employment Certificate (Zaishoku shomei) issued by the company, if the guarantor is a company employee.
      • A company's Registration issued by the Legal Affairs Bureau, if the guarantor is a company director.
      • A copy of Business Permission Certificate (Eigyo kyoka sho), ifthe guarantor is self-employed.
      (If your guarantor is NOT a Japanese national)
      • A certificate of Alien Registration
      • A copy of guarantor's passport
      • An Employment Certificate (Zaishoku shoumei) issued by the company, if the guarantor is a company employee.
      • A company's Registration issued by the Legal Affairs Bureau, if the guarantor is a company director.
      • A copy of Business Permission Certificate (Eigyo Kyoka sho), if the guarantor is self-employed.

Transit(Less than 3 days)
The following must be submitted for the application for the visa:

  1. A valid passport with a valid Australian visa
  2. Visa application form duly completed and signed by the applicant
  3. One passport sized photo (taken within 3 months)
  4. A copy of the airline ticket or flight details (full flight details from an accredited travel agent or airline)
  5. Letter from a school or university stating that the applicant is currently a student (if applicable)
  6. Proof of accommodation in Japan
  7. A visa for the next country you will visit after Japan
  8. Materials showing financial ability of applicant (Traveller's cheques, bank statement or bank book)
