The 2012 Japanese Summer Festival

On Saturday, February 11, the 2012 Japanese Summer Festival was held at Docklands in Melbourne. The popularity of this annual event continues to grow, with this year's festival attracting a crowd of around 13,000.

Consul-General Sobashima made an opening address at the event in which he spoke of the strong bonds between Australian and Japan and praised the contributions of Japanese companies and individuals to Melbourne's famous liveability. The festival crowd enjoyed terrific performances by the Taiko Group Wadaiko Rindo, and a shamisen performance by Noriko Tadano & The Shamys. Crowd members also took part in the traditional Bon Odori summer festival dance.
